Oriental rugs are not the same as carpets, deserve special care and attention and should be cleaned in quite a different manner. There are lots of machine made 'rugs' which would not be considered 'oriental rugs'. They might still be valuable and warrant special treatment. An oriental rug is any hand-knotted rug from anywhere in the world. The main regions that the best rugs come from are the Middle East, Eastern Europe, North Africa, India, and China. They can be hand-knotted on looms by nomadic tribes, in cottage industries in homes or in small commercial settings.

They differ from rugs because the variety of materials used in their construction is much greater and the types of dyes used also vary considerable. Due to the amount of variables it is vital that you only let someone clean your rug who knows what to look for and how to clean them properly. Shrinkage can cause the rug to ruckle at the edges and it's very easy for dyes to bleed into one another during cleaning.

We clean most oriental rugs off site in our workshop. We follow a 7-step process for achieving the most thorough cleaning possible. This include dusting the rugs to remove the dry soil. Cleaning by hand and drying the rugs in controlled conditions in our purpose-built drying room.
