There's a big problem with a lot of carpet cleaning that most cleaners are either unaware of or won't tell you. We strongly recommend that you ensure you understand this before engaging anyone to clean your carpets and make sure your satisfied they are not going to create the same problem for you.

The problem is 're-soiling'. It doesn't matter how much you pay, if your carpets are not cleaned properly you're likely to find that they get dirtier much more quickly after they've been cleaned than beforehand. This is because the vast majority of carpet and upholstery cleaners use a form of hot water extraction to clean with. This is a good thing. In fact most manufacturers of carpet would recommend this process. However, most carpet cleaners don't employ this technique properly, meaning you end up with a problem.

It's very important that your carpets and upholstery are thoroughly vacuumed prior to any solutions being applied. Most cleaners don't do this because it takes longer and most customers don't realize the importance of doing it. When using a hot water extraction system (sometimes called steam cleaning) it is also vital, in our opinion, that the cleaning solutions are pre-sprayed onto carpets and allowed to dwell. The same applies to upholstery in most situations. This step is often missed out because it takes longer and most customers don't realize the importance of doing it.....just like vacuuming. These cleaning solutions should then be thoroughly rinsed out using clean hot water or an acidic rinse.

Another point to make is that wool carpets should be cleaned using Woolsafe approved products. If they are not the solutions may cause permanent damage to the wool. The products we use on wool are Woolsafe approved and our technicians have been trained on how to care for wool by the Woolsafe organisation.

If these steps are not carefully followed you'll end up with carpets that are not as thoroughly cleaned as possible. More of a problem however is that the carpets will be left slightly sticky, usually not so you can detect it, but sticky enough that they get dirtier MUCH more quickly afterwards.
